We are thrilled with the progress Maskandi has made in the South African music mainstream. What’s even more remarkable is that this sound is being driven by independent traditional Zulu artists with little more than their raw talent.
Looking at the charts and trends, it’s clear that Maskandi has a significant influence on the South African music scene. In fact, the only sound currently surpassing Maskandi is Amapiano. One artist who has played a pivotal role in this success is Umafikizolo, also known as MrHit Ngomankulu.
Umafikizolo is known for his hit singles “Viva” and “Uzophela Umcimbi,” and he continues to push the boundaries of Maskandi. As we move further into 2024, the Zulu-born hitmaker is preparing to release his first project of the year, “Ngathi Nguye.”
